History of the First Baptist Church of Manchester, New Hampshire

Our church was planted in 1837 by 45 members of the Goffstown Bapitst Church and has met in our current building since 1871. In the 1960s, there was a fundraising campaign to completely renovate the building, but the effort failed. While it was bad news for the church then, God has worked it for good and today we have inherited a beautifully preserved building, even if it could still use some renovation here and there. We were honored to recently be placed on the New Hampshire Register of Historic Places and to recieve a City Landmark Award from the Manchester Historic Association for our work preserving the building.

More important than preserving the building though, we have preserved our mission for almost 200 years. A century ago our building hosted English classes for immigrants, Bible study groups, like minded congregations in need of space, and our own Sunday worship. The same is true today.

A full history of the church from 1837-1972 is attached below.
